Senaryosunu Frank S. Nugent’ın Alan Le May’in 1954 yılında yazdığı aynı adlı romanından uyarlayıp yazdığı filmin yönetmeni John Ford’dur. Filmde ırkçı bir savaş gazisinin kızılderililerin kaçırdığı yeğenini aramak için yollara düşmesi, yıllar süren bu arayış sırasında onu harekete geçiren amacın gittikçe daha tartışmalı bir hale gelişi konu ediliyor. Film çevrildiği yıl ses getirmediyse de, yıllar geçtikçe prestij kazanarak klasikleşmiştir. Kimilerine göre ise John Ford’un başyapıtıdır. 'The Searchers', Amerika’da 'kültürel, tarihi ve estetik olarak önemli' filmler arasına seçilmiş ve Kongre Kütüphanesi’nin 'Ulusal Film Arşivi'nde korunmasına karar verilmiştir.
